Blind Eye

If you would like to improve the appearance of a blind eye, a visit to one of our Ocularistry practices in either Randburg or Centurion is highly recommended. Our individually designed, custom-made prosthetic scleral shells are precisely fabricated to meet each of your very specific needs, from colour and pigmentation to comfort and fit.

Patients are often not aware that they can have a scleral shell ocular prosthesis fitted over their blind eye without having the blind eye surgically removed.

One of our oldest patients, in her 90’s, was told by her new Ophthalmologist that she could get a scleral shell to fit over her blind eye. She’d been blind in that eye and it had been disfigured for about 30 years. She was also one of the most excited patients we’ve ever had as she knew what people’s reaction to her was with the eye prosthesis in and without.

Why should you invest in an artificial eye?

An ocular prosthesis or artificial eye offers benefits that reach from appearance and function through to addressing the psychological impact of losing an eye. Eyes Alive uses only the highest quality materials and as both Beryl and Pedro Carvalho are OASA registered Ocularist members registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), Eyes Alive is fully certified, accredited and qualified to create, fit and maintain your new artificial eye or scleral shell artificial eye prosthesis.

Eyes Alive believes that it’s an investment worth making that can go a long way to improving quality of life.
